Team's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser

Nov 28, 2023

Junior Kayla Kosla and Sophomores Gabriella Gawlik and Ella Rundo are this year’s Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Student Visionaries for Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School. Kosla, Gawlik and Rundo will lead approximately 25 classmates in a team effort to raise money and awareness in the battle against blood cancers. They have named themselves “Team Compass” to signify that their team is “pointing in the direction of a cure.” The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Student Visionaries of the Year campaign is a national program that provides high school students the opportunity to compete against teams from other area high schools to see who can raise the most money in a seven-week period. The money raised is used by LLS to support its three mission pillars – research, advocacy, and patient support. .81 of every dollar raised by LLS is directly used for these efforts and remains in Northeast Ohio. Last year’s Northeast Ohio campaign raised just shy of one million dollars for LLS. This will be the fourth year that BBHHS has had a Student Visionaries Team. Last year’s Team Arrow led by Nikolina Racic, Megan Macy and Sydney Macy raised over $50,000 and Team Telescope lead by Bridget Butler, Kate Butler and Ella De Tray raised over $60,000 in 2022. BBH’s inaugural LLS team lead by Ava Singh, Alexis Vollweller and Kaitlyn Lyden raised $35,000 in 2021. Team Compass hopes to raise at least $40,000 when their seven-week campaign kicks off on January 17, 2024.

Team's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser

Visionaries look to the future—and see infinite possibility.
They challenge the status quo—and make the impossible possible.
They boldly imagine a better world – and lead the charge to create it.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers.

I am a visionary; I have a vision for a world without cancer, but I need your help.

This year, I’m proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission.

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

  • Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
  • Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
  • Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.

Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!

Thanks to your support, my efforts will help ensure this generation is the last to see cancer.

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!
